A* CHEERS ! we R TooNines! it is called so based on the sum of our index no. Plus, we are too nice to be TooNines xD Why we chose Winter Olympics is because we wanted students to know more about it and anyway, we like some winter sports too. In this hot red little dot, Singapore, due to the climate, we do not have the chance to experience winter seasons. So we admire the athletes to have a chance to play sports in the freezing snow or even ice! Then we did our research straight after that! Ready to explore our blog?!?! Have a nice day people :)

secondary 1 and 2 Exhibition !

written report :D

A. Introduction and Selection of Chapter

This time, we chose
Winter Olympics for our chapter as we wanted students to know more about it , and besides, we like some winter sports too !
In this
hot red little dot, Singapore, we do not have the chance to experience winter seasons due to the climate .
That's also a reason why we admire the athletes who have a chance to play sports in the freezing snow or even ice! Then we did our research straight after that, organized by Shanen as the leader along with Ariel as her assistant , Juliana as the attentive recorder and Wei Foong as the questioner . Shanen was responsible with the blogging and research , Ariel and Juliana worked together to find more informations for the presentation , and Wei Foong was the one who collected all of the information and ideas to be put then .

B. Development of Blog

In this chapter,
Winter Olympics , we talk about :
  • The History of Winter Olympics

    Chamonix, France

  • Most of the information is adapted from Google , Wikipedia , and also WTOP .
It's quite surprising to learn that Winter Olympic has actually been held since the early 19th century, meaning that people around the world still have the enthusiasm to hold the Games on and on, even until now..

  • The Latest Winter Olympic Games which was held in Italy (2006)
We have gained as much information as we could for this part, and also we have managed to find a video of the gold medal's winner for ICE-SKATING category in 2006 Winter Olympics who was from Japan .

    Turin, Italy

  • VANCOUVER 2010

  • Canada must be proud as Vancouver has been chosen to host the 2010 Winter Olympics, which is said to be the largest city that hosts the Winter Olympic Games ever . The countdown has even started, and the tickets are now available !

There were several people from different countries interviewed about Winter Olympics, too . Here are the results :

    1. "There were economic problems then, and there are economic problems now . And the Winter Olympic Games do really have impact on the world of sports . "

    2. "An athlete has only one or two chances to participate in the Olympic Games, and there is no place for failed Olympic Games in the life of an athlete . We owe that to them ."

    3.
"If the Winter Olympics come here years later, more spectators need to come here for that, which will make the game exciting and also help to promote the winter sports around."

    -- Jacqueus Rugges --

We have also done research on the development of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games , and we are quite surprised that there have already been some accomodation advertisements on the Internet .

C. Possible Developments of the Commemorative Books

We would also like to suggest some possible developments of the commemorative books that can be done , such as :
  • Including the topic "Singapore as an educational country" ;
It's to tell people who come to visit Singapore (especially tourists) how well-developed the education in Singapore is , and that many people from many countries, especially in Asia, are interested to pursue study in Singapore which also affects the economy , etc.
  • Including the topic about Total Defence in Singapore ;
It's about how Singaporeans consider safety as one of the important things in order to keep their prosperity , peace , etc.

D . Benefits of Hosting YOG

1.
INCREASING ECONOMY
By hosting the YOG , many tourists from all over the world are surely going to visit our country , which will also be increasing the economy development .

2.
AWARENESS
Since Singapore is about to host the YOG , it also means that Singaporeans will participate in the competition ; not only the athletes but also the spectators will gain the awareness . The Games will let them know more about the importance of teamwork, responsibilities and integrity .

3.
UNITY
The cohesiveness among Singaporeans will definitely increase , since there will be alot of Singaporeans volunteering for the preparation of the YOG , making them as one big team who work together towards a successful YOG , and therefore the teamwork , spirit , the sense of belonging , perseverence will be built up and unite them .

4. "UNIQUELY SINGAPORE"
Besides participating in the YOG , other Singaporeans can also provide homestay for some athletes from other countries , thus they can get to know about Singapore better . Showing them different places of interests, the culture / heritage , etc. will helo them to bond together as a world .

E. Personal Reflections

So we worked together in our project , WINTER OLYMPICS , and we had learnt much during the OPEL project . We had learnt how to be on task, how to manage our time (which was limited!!) , how to make use of the Internet in a right way , and also how to work together as a team :)

We think Shanen who's the leader did a wonderful job!!! She managed to find lots of information (: We think Juliana did a great job too, as she helped all the members who were in trouble and volunteered to do some work.
So did Weifoong, she was really cooperative, and she listened attentively to what the other member’s ideas were and then disussed all of our ideas to form another great idea that we all agreed on.

When Monday came , we had to present our draft .
As we were all nervous, it led us to soften our voice (although there were some classmates who commented that the presentation was too wordy, as a group, for us it's not wordy . Instead we think it has quite many pictures in it .) One thing that we've got to admit was the font-size which was claimed to be too small , but overall we think our blog is ok ;)

Comments that were given ; to find more pictures, enlarge front, and also to project our voice.
Currently , our group is working on it =D

xoxo,
TooNines :)

Tickets for the event have even been available for purchase since October 3 2008 and the one year countdown to the beginning of the games has started from 12 February 2008. The BC government also indicated it would pay $600 million upgrade to the Sea-to-Sky Highway to accomodate the increased traffic between Vancouver and Whistler , although this highway upgrade has been overdue for more than a decade and still will not meet the basic needs of the corridor .

reflections...

Every member says .. :

Our group named, TooNines did some research on the first day on our main topic winter Olympics… ( ice skating, snowboarding, skiing, etc ). Also we did some blog stuffs and many pictures to lessen our work in the OPEL project.
But as ON the first day (Thursday) we did not have enough time, we decided to meet on Sunday at National Library.
Well, we only had a few hours though, but we managed to complete our presentation and our blog profile!!!
We think we really did a great job at that day, and we think Shanen who's the leader did a wonderful job!!!
Soon, Monday came and we needed to present .
As we were all nervous, it led us to soften our voice (although there were some classmates who commented that the presentation was too wordy, as a group, for us it's not wordy . Instead we think it has many pictures in it .) One thing that we've got to admit was the font-size which was claimed to be too small , but overall we think our blog is ok ;)
